What is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach?

A Psychosocial Recovery Coach is a qualified mental health professional who supports individuals with psychosocial disabilities to take control of their recovery journey. They work with you to set goals, build daily living skills, increase confidence, and connect you with services that support long-term mental health and independence. Recovery coaches are funded under the NDIS and offer both emotional support and practical guidance.

How is a Recovery Coach different from a Support Coordinator?

While both roles help you navigate the NDIS and access services, a Recovery Coach brings a deeper understanding of mental health and recovery principles. Unlike a Support Coordinator, a Recovery Coach offers mental health-specific support, helps build emotional resilience, and works more closely with you on your personal recovery plan. They also provide coaching and mentoring to help you stay on track with your goals.

Who can access a Psychosocial Recovery Coach under the NDIS?

NDIS participants who have a psychosocial disability and require mental health recovery support may be eligible. This includes individuals living with conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, or severe anxiety. Recovery coaching is usually included in your NDIS plan under Capacity Building – Support Coordination (if specified for psychosocial recovery).

What kind of support will I receive?

You’ll receive one-on-one coaching tailored to your needs and goals. This may include help with managing daily routines, improving relationships, accessing housing, employment or education, developing coping strategies, and engaging in community life. Your Recovery Coach also helps you coordinate NDIS supports and connects you with mental health and community services.

How do I get started with a Recovery Coach?

If your NDIS plan includes Psychosocial Recovery Coaching, simply contact us to begin. We’ll match you with a coach who understands your goals and needs. If you’re unsure whether recovery coaching is in your plan, we can guide you or liaise with your support coordinator to explore options.
